In the beginning, there's a boy standing in the trees. . .

Clara Gardner has recently learned that she's part angel. Having angel blood run through her veins not only makes her smarter, stronger, and faster than humans (a word, she realizes, that no longer applies to her), but it means she has a purpose, something she was put on this earth to do. Figuring out what it is, though, isn't easy.

Her visions of a raging forest fire and an alluring stranger lead her to a new school in a new town. When she meets Christian, who turns out to be the boy of her dreams (literally), everything seems to fall into place--and out of place, at the same time. Because there's another guy, Tucker, who appeals to Clara's less angelic side.

As Clara tries to find her way in a world she no longer understands, she encounters unseen dangers and choices she never thought she'd have to make--between honesty and deceit, love and duty, good and evil. When the fire from her vision finally ignites, will Clara be ready to face her destiny?

I got this book for a contest for an end of the year contest we are having *coughcough*REALLYSOON*coughcough* it was one of the books I was most looking forward to next year. Let me tell you, it did not disappoint. The synopsis above isn't really what the book is about, which was a little annoying but the book was wonderful in different ways. It was very very good.
The main character Clara was a lovely heroine, she wasn't whiny like a lot of heroines you see these days, she understood her duty and that she had to do it, and that it was the reason she was on Earth, so it needed to be done. The book didn't tell her brother Jeffery's age until like the middle of the book, so I thought he was like ten and EXTREMELY confused when he went to school with her and had her friends like falling all over him. Yeah, it was confusing.
The plot was pretty intense. The fact that she had to save Christian, who she kind of liked but she also liked Tucker, (I was totally team Tucker) and omgosh THE ENDING WAS SO INTENSE. Not that I'm going to ruin it. :)
Overall, it was very good, I recommend.

  4. Christian was interesting. I never quite understood his change of heart when it came to Clara (until the end). Some will see this as a love triangle, but I never did. I always saw Christian as the purpose and not someone Clara was really interested in. She was attracted to him, but I felt she was trying to put herself in a better position to fulfill what she was expected to do.
