Booking Through Thursday (6)

As some of you know I was gone last weekend but I am gettin back into the swing of things with another Booking Through Thursday! If you want to join the fun, click the link and comment on the BTT website or comment below! I would love to read your answers!

Have your reading choices changed over the years? Or pretty much stayed the same?

Shelbie's Answer:
Essentially, yes. I mean I'm not reading books in the kid section anymore, but the overall composition of the story is the same. Does that make sense? Probably not. I have always been a sucker for romance, witty, sarcastic lines, a twist-y turn-y plot and a strong female heroine and that's something that I think I'll just always love even when I gear myself toward the adult section which wont happen for a while because I love YA so much :)
Amanda's Answer:
No, they are definitely not the same is before! Lets just say that I never truly knew what an AMAZING book was a few years ago. Yes, I would finish most of my books and be like "Wow, that was pretty good!" but I never truly understood what made a truly good book. Now I know that I love books that are totally unique, usually sci-fi or Fantasy, with a hint of romance, snarky comments, and a kick butt heroine. I'm big on books with deeper meanings too. Like... I don't know how to explain it, I like books where the character thinks they're doing something for one reason... but really they're doing it for a different more complex reason. So, long story short. I think I choose higher quality books now, and now I know what I actually like. So this would be a HUGE change I guess.
Please comment with your answers because this is a question where I would love to see if your answer is different or the same as mine! :)

Booking Through Thursday(5)

Hey guys, it's time for Booking Through Thursday! Booking through thursday is a bookish meme that asks you book related questions!

What is the first book you remember reading? What about the first that made you really love reading?

Oh lordy lord. I can't even remember what it was. But, I guess one of the first chapter books was Coraline by Neil Gaiman. And man, was that an intense book! It STILL creeps me out whenever I read it. I didn't even go see the movie cause I thought it would be scary! But it was an awesome book. As for the first that made me really love reading, there wasn't a specific one. Though, a while back I read Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery and I am hooked on that series. It is amazing. Anyways, thats my answer!

love always,

Amanda

Gettin back into the swing of things with another Booking Through Thursday! Wanna join the fun? Click the link and comment on the BTT website or comment below! I would love to read your answers!

Which fictional character (or group of characters) would you like to spend a day at the beach with? Why would he/she/they make good beach buddies?

Shelbie's Answer:
Two words. Jace Wayland. (from City of Bones by Cassandra Clare) Why? Hello man candy! Who wouldn't like to soak up rays with Jace all day? And if a ravenous monster comes to attack the beach I know I'd be covered because Jace can hold his own and protect me while making witty remarks and looking so utterly attractive!
Amanda's Answer:
So, Shelbie said I wouldn't be able to make this one, because I'm out of town. However, I have a little bit of time before I leave and will hurry to get it done right now! Hmmmm Shelbie is right, however, and I do agree on the point of Jace. Boy what I would give to see HIM shirtless. BUT I recently read a book called The Boys Next Door by Jennifer Echols, and I think Adam would be a pretty good choice! The only downside? Adam gets jealous easily. But hey, if ravenous monsters show up and I have to call Jace and Adam gets jealous, I wouldn't mine being protected from monsters by hot guys and being fought over. As long as their faces still come out pretty :)
Happy Thursday and leave comments with what you thought of my beach buddy and links to yours!

Shelbie

Booking Through Thursday (3)

Hey guys! First of all i am SO SORRY for being MIA, like Amanda said in her note below we've both been really focused on getting our summer reading books done, I want to get all of mine done by the first week in August, and I have two books left so I didn't really have time to fun read lately :( also, if you follow us on twitter (twitter.com/ShelbieAmanda) you'd know that I was sort of in a reading slum. But I promise to still be more active as much as I can! Anyway, to the actual meme,

Do you ever listen to book-related podcasts?
If so, which ones and why? (Include the URLs for people who aren’t familiar with them.)
Or, of course, there’s the flip side … did you even know that such a thing existed?

Shelbie's Answer-
Honestly, I only sort of barely know what podcasts are. Will someone explain them to me? I know they exist and I know authors do them sometimes, but I don't really know what they do exactly. So I guess that will answer my question of do you listen to them? No. :)
Amanda's Answer-
Ummmm I've heard of podcasts, but not book related ones. So honestly, no, I don't listen to them.
As always leave your responses below with links to your BTT and let us know what you thought of ours!

Booking Through Thursday (3)

Hey Guys, this is a weekly meme hosted by Booking Through Thursday, Amanda and I really enjoy this meme, and I hope you do too! Comment linking to your answer and tell us what you thought of ours!

When you think about “hot reading,” what does that make you think of? Beach reading? Steamy romances? Books that take place in hot climates? Or cold ones?

Shelbie's Answer -

Oh Gosh, When I think of "hot reading", I have no idea what I think of, probably either reading when it's terribly hot outside or where the books are really steamy and hot! I havn't really thought about it much though :)

Amanda's Answer-
Hot reading? Ummm..... I actually have no idea! Probably being unbearably hot underneath my bedcovers reading during a summer night or books with hot guys!

Like I said, comment with yours and let me know what you thought of ours!

Booking Through Thursday(2)

Hey guys, time for Booking Through Thursday!

Booking Through Thursday is a meme hosted by the site, Booking Through Thursday.

Basically, it asks you a bookish question on the site, and you answer the question on your blog. So here's the question and our answers! Comment what your answer would be or post it on the site above!

Do you have friends and family to share books with?
Discuss them with? Does it matter to you?

Amanda's answer: Of course I do! Well, first of all, there's Shelbie. I usually text or call her when I'm reading a book and tell her things I do or don't like, ask her questions, etc. And then there's book club. Basically, in book club there are six of us, so I have five different people to talk to about how dreamy a fictional hunk is or how annoying the fictional girl is. And yes, it does matter to me. I love being able to talk to someone who's read the same book I'm reading, so I can get answers right away. Also, I have the blogging community, so there are tons of people to talk with on here. However, one of my favorite things to do is follow authors on twitter, and ask them questions about books. I do that frequently with Cassandra Clare and she's very interactive.

Shelbie's Answer: I feel like Amanda and my answer are going to very similar. I love talking to Amanda about books, we'll talk about the plot or how so and so's character is totally swoon worthy or that we hate that this happened or we think that is dumb, I also love our book club, because sometimes we have the same opinion and sometimes its WAY different, and it's cool seeing everyone's opinion on something, even if it's different from yours. I love sharing books with my mom, because we always pick different people to like in books, and I like "making fun" of her about that. I also love our blog community! It's a great way to get opinions and get questions answered about books, etc. I think it's really important to dicuss books with people because it'll give you a connection with them, even if your not great friends with the person I know that sharing books has brought me closer to people, because now we have a common topic to talk about!

Booking Through Thursday 1

Hey guys! So I thought we should start doing memes. (Not all of them obviously.) So we're starting with Booking Through Thursday! This meme was started by the site booking through thursday. Basically they're a new book related question each thursday posted at http://btt2.wordpress.com/ . This week's question is...

"Name a book or author that you truly wanted to love but left you disappointed. (And, of course, explain why.)"

We'll leave our responses and you can either comment with yours or go to the link above to leave a comment there.

Amanda: Shelbie is going to hate me for this, but the one book that left me disappointed was Something, Maybe by Elizabeth Scott. I had heard so much about how good her books were, but it wasn't "amazing" like I thought it would be. The characters were fantastic, and so was the plot. But the writing just wasn't "special" and I felt like not everything that needed to be there was fit into the 200 something pages. It was still a good book, it got three stars in my review, but it didn't live up to amazing, which is a hard thing to do anyways. I hope when I read more Elizabeth Scott that it will be amazing. :)

Shelbie: Yes. I do hate you Amanda. No I'm just kidding. Mine was The Turning by Helen Ellis, I'm a judge a book by it's cover person and I always have been. So I was at the B&N and and saw the cover, and it was amazing, it was also turned forward so you could see the whole cover, and at the B&N you know that makes the book super legit. So I read it and the characters were underdeveloped and the plot was annoying, you can see the full review over in reviews. But I still wish that the book lived up to its amazing cover! Kudos to the cover artist, not to the author.

Love always,

Shelbie and Amanda
